Competitor Backlink Gap Analysis for Your Site

A competitor backlink gap analysis finds the pages that link to your competitors but not to you. Those pages already link to sites like yours, so they are your best outreach targets. Enter your domain and BacklinksBot lists them, scored by DR, with a strategy for each.

What a backlink gap is

Your backlink gap is the set of sites and pages that link to one or more of your competitors but not to you. If three rival sites are listed on the same resource page and you are not, that page is in your gap. If a "best X" article names two competitors and skips you, that article is in your gap.

The gap matters because it is proof of fit. These pages have already shown they link to products or content like yours. Pitching them is far more likely to work than pitching random sites, and the gap tells you where the strongest competitors got their links.

What the analysis finds

Each target gets a DR on the BacklinksBot DR scale, our own 0 to 100 estimate from public domain rank data, plus the suggested strategy and a short reason why it fits your site.

How to run a backlink gap analysis

  1. 1 Enter your domain. The tool reads your site to understand your topic.
  2. 2 Add competitors, or let the tool find them. In the demo you can add up to 2. If you leave them out, the tool finds sites that compete with you.
  3. 3 Pick a niche and a minimum DR. For example SaaS and DR50+, so the list skips weak sites.
  4. 4 Read the summary. You see how many relevant pages link to your competitors but not to you, broken down by strategy.
  5. 5 Review the targets. Each one shows DR, the strategy and why it fits.
  6. 6 Start outreach. On a paid plan, the bot finds public contacts, writes the emails and runs the follow-ups.

What you get in the demo

The link gap demo on our homepage runs one analysis on your domain with no account needed. You can add up to two competitors, a niche and a minimum DR. The first five targets are shown in full, with DR, strategy and the reason. The rest of the list is blurred.

When you create an account and confirm your email with the code we send, the full target list for that analysis unlocks once, and your account gets one more analysis, for life. Finding contacts, sending emails, follow-ups and monitoring need a plan. The demo uses rules and public data only, with no AI.

From gap to live links

A gap list is only useful if someone works through it. On a paid plan, BacklinksBot turns every target into a card on the pipeline board. It finds a public contact, writes a personal email for that page, sends it from your connected mailbox, follows up up to two times, sorts replies and drafts answers. When a link goes live, the bot checks it on the page, records the anchor and rel, and monitors it.

Each analysis compares you with up to 3 competitors on Starter, 5 on Growth and 10 on Agency. Starter includes 10 analyses a month, so you can rerun the gap as your competitors earn new links.

Reading the results well

For the strategies behind each target, see the strategies page. For ecommerce, read ecommerce link building, and for SaaS, SaaS link building.

  • Start with pages that link to two or more competitors. They are the clearest fit.
  • Do not chase DR alone. A DR40 page on your exact topic often beats a DR80 page on a loose one.
  • Check your own page first. If you have nothing better than what the page already links to, improve your page before you pitch.
  • Expect some paid offers. If a publisher asks for a fee, the bot proposes rel="sponsored" and you decide.

Why the gap keeps changing

Your gap is not fixed. Competitors earn new links every week, old pages lose links, and new articles in your topic appear. A list from three months ago misses the newest and often most relevant targets.

That is why paid plans include repeat analyses: 10 a month on Starter, with more competitors per analysis on Growth and Agency. Rerunning the gap after a competitor launch, a big press story or a new comparison article in your space shows you fresh pages that just started linking to sites like yours, while those editors are still active on the topic.
